What the project is about?
This project aims to create a framework for accessible transport education, training, and professional development across the UK.
It will also look at what’s currently available and identify any gaps to see how well existing programmes meet the needs.

What do we want this project to do?
This project will produce the following outputs:
An education, training and professional development framework for the UK.
A research report highlighting gaps in current provision, with recommendations on how the sector and ncat can help improve the knowledge and skills of the transport workforce in relation to accessibility and disability.
How will we carry out the project?
We will start by identifying the professions and sectors that play a role into making transport accessible.
The next stage will be to develop a map of accessible transport skills and knowledge needed by different professionals working at different levels. This will be finalised through engagement with expert stakeholders.
The final stage will be to compare what we’ve produced as ideal coverage of skills and knowledge with what already exists and is being provided to see where the gaps lie.
What have we done so far?
So far we have completed the literature review – looking at what resources and information have already been produced in this field, which has helped us see what knowledge and frameworks already exists, and where the gaps lie.
We’ve also prepared and sent out to members of the Community of Accessible Transport Panel, a survey designed to gather their experiences of interacting with public transport staff.
The next stage will be to carry out a training need analysis, with public transport operators, Disabled Peoples Organisations who deliver accessibility training, and bus drivers (as representatives of public transport staff).
